Originally, membership of our Association was open to the Officers’ Wives Associations of the Nigerian Army, the Nigerian Navy, the Nigerian Air Force and the Nigeria Police who nominate some of their members to constitute DEPOWA. Later, membership of our Association was made open to the officers’ wives associations of Tri-service military institutions and units such as the Nigerian Defence Academy, the Armed Forces Command and Staff College, the National Defence College amongst others. Each of these Associations is headed by a Coordinator, who is usually the wife of the Commandant. In line with this arrangement, no individual officer’s wife becomes a member of DEPOWA unless nominated by the President or Coordinator of her parent Association. Therefore, DEPOWA members are like ambassadors. At the national level, the wife of the Chief of Defence Staff presides over the activities of the Association.
